Mychal Westman has been an enthusiastic supporter of SPN since its inception. Although a coach and a player, Mychal’s greatest contribution has been in one of the most demanding and often thankless roles – an Umpire. He has a passion for officiating that the casual observer cannot comprehend, always striving to make the game fair and fun.
Mychal constantly challenged himself and other officials to strive for perfection in a profession that demands equal parts of speed and agility, subtlety and nuance, courage and skill. Constantly raising the bar of excellence, among his many accomplishments since joining SPN in 1989, he participated in fourteen national tournaments as an umpire, umpire-in- chief, coach, players or tournament official. As a working official, Mychal was the plate umpire in nine National Championship games.
More than the number, Mychal brought a high degree of professionalism to every game, demonstrating unique energy, enthusiasm, hustle and hard work, striving to make the game better. He leaves the game with a lifetime of memories, a wealth of friends and most importantly – the highest degree of respect from players and coaches.
